BACKGROUND

Equitopia is on a mission to support equestrians who believe in compassionate horsemanship. We do this by empowering the equestrian community with a wide array of evidence-based educational resources including certified online courses, expert-led webinars, monthly podcasts, behind-the-scenes videos, and essays summarizing key messages from equine research studies.

We believe that inter professional collaboration is critical to ensuring compassionate equine care, and this perspective will underpin our upcoming thematic virtual conference series – beginning in May 2020. Each conference in the series will look at a single theme from the perspectives of multiple equine professionals – each adding his/her unique insight to the topic based on their qualifications, expertise and experience.

Hi Just wondering if we can watch some of this later if we are not able to be present for the entire time due to worK?

    • Hi Ingrid,

Yes, the conference will be recorded and will be available to participants for 24 hours after the event ends.

Let us know if you have any more questions:)

  • Penelope
    8:04 am

Will this be available to purchase as a course/online learning afterwards?

    • Hi Penelope, yes, we will be edited, adding to and formulating the conference into a course which will be available for purchase – probably somewhere in the $90 region – attendees will get a discount equivalent to what they pay for the live event – this will also be available attendee for 24 hours after the event. Let us know if you have any other questions:)

I’m interested but a little bit confused about the times on this page. I notice that day one is Pacific time and day two is Greenwich. Is that correct? Is it supposed to be one or the other for both days? I’m in the Eastern time zone. If I calculated correctly, that has me showing up at either 6am or 6pm on day 2 and I feel like either one of those could be equally plausible. Any clarification would be helpful. Thank you! This looks like it’s going to be a great event!

    • Hi Cara, Yes, in order to accommodate our consultants (3 in the UK and 3 in the US) and to try to allow for most time zones to attend one event live within reasonable times (i.e. not in the middle of the night!) we have scheduled the conference for UK time and US California times for the event. (I believe you can google to find the equivalent time for your location). The conference will also be recorded and be available for attendees for 24 hours after the event. It will also be edited, added to and formatted into a course later which will be available for $95 (attendees will have the conference price deducted from the course if they purchase – i.e. $95 less $70 for the conference = $25 for the course:)

  • Will we be able to ask the presenters questions?

    • You can apply to be on the people to ask questions as part of the final panel discussion (unforunately, we have to limit the number of questions to ensure we finish on time:) – link is on the page (purple button that says “Participate in Panel Discussion”

I understand this begins at 1:00 pm PST (so 4:00 pm my time EST) but on day 2 what is GMT time?

  • Krista Christian
    9:33 am

Hi Caroline, I’m interested! Do both days start at 1PM Pacific time? I’m not familiar with GMT

    • Hi Krista. The first day starts at 1pm California time and the second day starts at 10am Greenwich Mean Time (UK) time which would be 2am California time (8 hours time difference). The conference is being recorded and will be available for 24 hours after the event, so you can watch the following day:)

  • Amanda
    10:52 am

Will you be issuing CPD certificates? Thanks.

    • Hi Amanda, We have not qualified this event for CPD in any countries yet – we are working on getting some of our courses approved (Dr. Dyson’s one on 24 Behaviors indicating pain in the ridden horse is qualified for 5 CE credits with RACE in the US with other organizations and countries in progress). Once the conference is converted to a course, we will add it to our list.

  • Amanda
    10:55 am

So if I want to attend the 5th May in the UK I can and it would be at 8pm?

    • Hi Amanda, I believe it would be 9pm (Pacific time is California which is 8 hours behind). However the conference will be recorded and will be available for 24 hours after the event if you would like to watch the following day:)

  • Cath
    11:09 am

Will the recorded video be available for download or just viewing for those attending

    • Hi Cath, the conference will be available for viewing, not downloading. However, as it mentions in the event description, we will be editing, adding to and formulating the conference into a course which can be purchased for $95 with attendees having the conference price discounted (i.e. $95 minus $70 for conference = course $25 with access for 2 years.

I would like to purchase the course when it is available but cannot attend the conference. How can I follow up when it is ready for purchase?

    • Hi Diane. The conference will be recorded and available for 24 hours after the event if that works for you. The course will take a couple of weeks to convert to a course. We will announce it on FB and will advise in our newsletter – both members and free option. If you are not a member, info is here: https://www.equitopiacenter.com/membership/

    Caroline and everyone –

It is important not to mix up GMT and UK time.

the are NOT currently the same – be very careful of that – I see they are used interchangeably here, but that is not right

the UK is ONLY on GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) in the WINTER –
GMT does not go forward in the spring and back in the fall – it always stays the same

so, in the summer, after their clocks go ahead, the UK is on BST (British SUMMER time), which is 1 HOUR LATER than GMT –

IF the presenters are presenting at 10 am their time in the UK, yes, that is currently 8 hours ahead of the US west coast, and so would be 2am Pacific Daylight Time.

But if they are presenting at 10 am GMT, which is how it is listed, that would actually be 11am in the UK, and so would be 3am Pacific Daylight Time.

in other words, if the UK presenters are presenting on BST, but people put GMT into a timezone converter, the output will be one hour late

(for future reference, US and UK clocks go forward and back at slightly different times, so for a few weeks a year, the time difference is an hour different – so it’s important to know if you are talking about GMT (winter) or BST (summer) in Britain, just like it’s important to know if you are talking about Standard Time (winter) or Daylight Savings Time (summer) in the US)

very confusing, I know – I have a lot of connection with the UK for work and also family, so I am up on it – and yes, I am sure…

    Caroline and everyone –

GMT and UK time are NOT the same in the summer, because UK clocks go ahead in the spring just like ours do, so the UK is now on British Summer Time (BST) NOT on GMT

If people put GMT into a converter they will get the wrong time if the UK presenters are presenting on UK time

    • Hi Ariel, So sorry – you are correct. We will remind everyone via email beforehand and clarify that they need to check the world clock for precise times. Thank you:)

    1) What app is used for streaming? 2) Perhaps a count down clock could be used to help everyone with the start times.

    • This will be zoom conference. The plan is to email all attendees with a reminder one hour before the event starts. Hopefully that will work:)

  • Kadie
    6:33 pm

When the lecture begins, will there be link on the home page of the website, facebook, or another platform?

    • Hi Kadie,

The conference will be hosted on zoom. You will receive an email with the link one hour before the event. You will need to download the software (instructions will be in the email) if you don’t already have it:)

  • Sue Connollly
    1:42 am

Do you send me an email link for tomorrows event please. I have purchased a ticket

    • Hi Sue – yes, you will receive an email one hour before the event with the zoom link. You will need to download the software if you do not already have it.

  • Savannah Aliy Jackson
    7:48 am

2 questions- are these videos going to be in the monthly membership on a permanent basis, and when? Question 2- you said the recordings will be available for 3 days in the description, but then are telling people its only for 1 day in the comments.Which is it? Thanks

    • Hi Savannah, No, the recorded conference will not be part of the monthly membership program. The recorded conference will be edited, added to and formulated into a course which will sell for $95. Attendees will get a discount equivalent to the purchase of tickets – i.e. if someone buys both days then the course would be $95 minus $70 = $25 for the course. We were going to have the recording available for 24 hours but apparently zoom have their own system that keeps the recording up for 3 days.

  • Trudi Allen
    1:31 pm

Hi, I have signed up and paid for today’s conference (5th May) but have not received any email confirming this or with the email zoom link apart from a PayPal confirmation email. Therefore I’m currently unable to access the webinar.

    • Hi Trudi – can you double check you spam perhaps? Reminder emails and zoom links went out several times yesterday and one hour before the conference. We are in the middle of presenting now so might not be able to get a new link to you.

I look forward to this being made into a course, or made available in some other fashion as I missed it!

    • Thank you for connecting. We are very excited to be able to produce a course from the content! It should be ready in about 3 weeks or so. We will announce it on Facebook and the monthly newsletter:)
