How long have you been a member of Equitopia?

Since June 2019

Why did you join Equitopia?

I had been following the Equitopia videos about the equine back while dealing with kissing spine with my Shire/TB cross. I watched the videos over and over and learned so much. I met Caroline at the Dr. Heuschmann clinic in Denver.

What do you enjoy most about Equitopia?

The monthly webinars keep me learning. The online classes are now reference material for me. I have a poster on the ethograms of pain in the ridden horse. And I have been to Equitopia and participated in a clinic with Dr. Heuschmann.

What do you love most about horsemanship?

I adore horses, all equids actually. I love learning. I feel like I have found my people through Equitopia.

How do you define success in horsemanship?

A happy healthy horse. A great relationship with the horse and myself. A horse that is able to express itself as a horse. And if I am lucky, a horse that I can ride and participate in learning more about dressage.

Who inspires you – and why?

Caroline Hegarty, Dr. Gerd Heuschmann, Mary Wanless, Alexis Martin-Vegue, Ben Hart, Kirsten Alexa Hansen, Sharron Sarchet, Dr. Sue Dyson, Dr. Mindy Smith DVM, Todd Shields (farrier). These are all fantastic people with outstanding knowledge who have taught me so much.

If you could choose anyone as a mentor, who would you choose?

Do I have to choose just one?

What’s one thing – either horse-related or not – you learned in the last month?

I learned that a western saddle has around 1.1 PSI and an English saddle is 4.3 PSI and that a horse’s back goes numb in 10 minutes in an English saddle. And that even doing dressage, a well fitted western saddle would be a good working saddle for a dressage horse.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know?

I am really into mythology.

What’s your favorite book?

The Iliad and Odyssey

What’s your favorite movie of all time?

The Wizard of Oz

If you had to eat one meal every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Salmon patties, cucumber salad, sliced garden tomatoes with balsamic vinegar, rice, cooked green beans with olive oil, fresh baked bread, lemonade. Sweetened berries over angel food cake.

If you were told you could say 1 thing that the entire horse world would act on, what would that be?

Stop pulling on the reins.
