This course is only available to members of the Equitopia membership plan.

Welcome – and thank you for being a member of Equitopia!

Introducing horses can be an extremely stressful process for everyone involved. Watching your new horse being turned out with others is often like watching your child on their first day at school – it can leave you with your heart in your mouth! Whether you are introducing a new horse to their potential field mate, switching horses between herds, or introducing a new member to a long established herd, there is always a risk they won’t get on and possibly injure each other. This micro course deals with moving horses to another location or group. It has been developed by Equine Behaviorist, Justine Harrison.  Justine is a fully certified member of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC). She is also the organisation’s UK Chair, a member of the Application Review Committee, and a Mentor for both the IAABC’s Online Mentorship programme and the Animal Behavior Consulting Principles & Practice course. Justine is also registered as an Accredited Animal Behaviorist with the Animal Behavior and Training Council. Justine lectures on the BSc (Hons) Behavioral Science Degree at Writtle University College and also acts as an expert consultant in legal disputes and court cases involving equine behavior.

At the end of this course, you should be able to:

• Explain the natural behavior of herds and how horses socialize.

• Discuss the importance of space for optimal well being

• Plan and manage the introduction of a horse to a new herd

You may test your knowledge at the end of this course through the quiz. If you score over 70%, you can download a free certificate and an electronic badge to share on your LinkedIn and social media profiles to show you have passed this topic.
