In topic 6, Dr Karin Leibbrandt of 4dimension dressage at Equicare Plus in Holland looks at analyzing balance problems under the saddle and in the horse’s body. In the first video, you will watch the horse walking and trotting in the arena in straight lines, in a circle, using left rein and right rein to help you to analyse a horse. Dr Leibbrabdt will then comment on this exercise and draw your attention to potential balance problems which may have serious consequences if not addressed.

At the end of this topic, you should be able to: 

• Discuss balance problems under saddle
• Identify a left bent/right bent horse
• Discuss the quality of contact between horse and rider
• Discuss balance problems in the horse’s body
